3 Day Superfood Detox Cleanse Results!!

Here are my final results from my Superfood Detox Cleanse I completed last week!

I'm pretty impressed with the results I got in just 3 days. I was also impressed with how easy this cleanse was to complete!

Sure there were some times I felt weak and wanted to raid my pantry, but overall I didn't have cravings or feel like I was depriving myself. I think the fact that I was filling my body with TONS of superfood nutrients throughout the entire 3 days is what helped me feel so good and helped me not to have cravings like I have with other cleanses.

Fitness is a journey, not a destination! We all have highs and lows and even fit people sometimes need a little jump start to get them through a rough point or a plateau. This was exactly what I needed to detox after my 4 day binge of eating out and excessive celebrations.

Overall I lost 5.5 total inches from my waist/hips/thighs and I think about 4 pounds!!

I know some of that is water weight which is fine but I'm still happy with the way I looked afterwards. I lost some of that bloat I was feeling before and I felt lighter and more energized!

If you're looking to jump start your results or have an event/vacation coming up, or even just need a little 3 day break from processed food and are looking for a way to rid the toxins and feed your body what it needs....

Day 3 of 3 of my Superfood Detox Cleanse

Day 3 Of My 3 Day Superfood Detox Cleanse Completed!!

Well I can officially say I completed my 3 day detox cleanse!!!!
Day 3 was yesterday and surprisingly it was the easiest all all 3 days up until around 4:00pm when I hit a wall!

The day started out amazing! I felt so much energy. I felt very clear headed. I was feeling great and I wasn't feeling hungry or deprived at all!

I had my Shake for breakfast around 7:30am. I had a banana around 10:30am for a mid-morning snack. Then had my second shake around 12:45 and to be honest, I only had it because I knew I needed to eat something, not because I was hungry.

Then I got super busy at work and before I knew it, it was 4pm and I was STARVING!!!

The previous 2 days I had my 3rd shake around 4-4:30 pm and on this third day I kinda hit a wall at this time and I knew I needed some calories!

Luckily I had an apple with me so I quickly scarfed that down and I was fine after that!

On my drive home from work I began to imagine all the things I wanted to eat and I started to question why I was even doing this....but I'm very competitive and I couldn't just quick when I was this close to being finished.

I came home and immediately made my grilled chicken salad which was de-lish!

I had my 3rd shake for dessert :)

I took my result photos and measurements this morning and I was VERY pleased!!!! I will post once I go through  my photos for you all :)

All in all...was it worth it?
I think it was a great way to take a 3 day break from processed foods, eating out, alcohol, and give my body a super dose of superfoods nutrients and clean food!

My results were very good and I'm very pleased with that!

I felt great overall during this cleanse for the most part. I did experience an energy level dip in the afternoons, especially this last day, but  I was still able to go about my busy work day and do my workouts!

So I'm sure you're wondering what I ate today after my cleanse was done?
So I did have my Ezekiel bread toasted with natural peanut butter this morning and my favorite Quest bar for a mid morning snack. Interestingly it tasted super salty to me after these last 3 days without one! I had a turkey spinach wrap for lunch and I actually felt uninspired and had a chocolate vegan Shakeology for dinner with some fruit added in....I can't get enough of this stuff clearly! :)

I'm proud I stuck with it.....Results to come!

Day 2 of My 3 Day Superfood Detox Cleanse

Day 2 of My 3 Day Superfood Cleanse!

Alright guys...so today was a little harder but it was still not as bad as I expected! This plan really is not that bad! I got a little hungry today and felt a little mini headache before lunch but I also didn't get to eat my snack until lunch due to a busy morning with my patients.

For Breakfast - I had my 1 cup of coffee again with my small addition of coconut oil (ok so coffee isn't really on the plan, but I'm not ready to give that up just yet...)

Then I made my chocolate vegan shakeology with a lot of cold water, ice, and half a banana (going for volume this morning!).

I got slammed at work so I didn't get to eat again until noon. I was pretty hungry around this time and I started to think about the food everyone else was ordering in the office around me....oh the temptations!!

I quickly made my 2nd shake for Lunch- this time with just water- and this curbed my cravings! I then ate my apple (my snack) which helped fill me up more!

Around the time I was driving home from work today, I was starting to cave...I started to think..why am I even doing this?!

I often graze when I get home from work and I was dreaming about what was in my pantry....Ok...I had a small handful of raw almonds....If that's a "Cheat" then I guess I cheated but my goal is not to lose weight with this cleanse.

My Cookies n' Cream Quest Bars were taunting me and I didn't want to give in so what did I do for motivation?!?

I jumped on YouTube and watched some videos of others who have done this cleanse and that really inspired me to push through and continue on. It also inspired me to make a video! - See below :)

I made my 3rd shake to avoid temptation and decided to switch things up and make a strawberry shake this time. I did water and I decided to add in another half a banana - I'm not doing this for weight loss.

I then did my 30 mins workout (I did a LesMillsPump workout) and this gave me a lot of energy!

It's about 8pm now and I'm really not even hungry at all. I feel completely satisfied and energized. To be honest, I feel better than I have all day.

I'm about to make my LARGE salad with grilled chicken and lots of veggies and call it a night!

Let's see if I can make it through tomorrow- I have a busy day at work so that will either help me or make me really hungry :)

Day 1 of my 3 Day Superfood Detox Cleanse

Alright so I've almost completed Day 1 of my 3 day Superfood Detox Cleanse!!

It hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. Work kept me pretty busy and that helped keep my mind off my normal morning snack (Oh Quest Bar, I missed you!!)

I started my day with 1 cup of coffee with a small amount of coconut oil added (no sugar, no sweetener).

About 1 hour later I made my Chocolate Vegan Shakeology for breakfast with just good ole' H20 and half a banana before leaving for work.

Work kept me pretty busy this morning so I had lunch around 12:45 and had my 2nd Shakeology of the day with water. I also had 1 banana about 30 mins after my shake (I planned on an apple but the banana was more tempting).

I left work around 4pm today and I have to admit...all I could think about was that I get to eat food I can CHEW for dinner!!!

I actually didn't feel that hungry but I could feel my energy level starting to decrease and the thought of working out was not as appealing as normal.

I decided to make my 3rd Shake at 4:30pm so that I can gain more energy for an evening workout and then plan to eat my LARGE grilled chicken salad a little later to space things out and to hold me over all night.

So far though, I haven't really felt hungry at all. The Shakes are packed full of Superfood nutrients and they keep me pretty satisfied. I also feel ready to take on my workout now that I had my 3rd Shake.

We will see how the workout goes...not going to lie though...I am really looking forward to my dinner!

Until tomorrow.....

3 Day Sueprfood Detox Cleanse!

Alright, It's confession time!

This weekend I had a great time celebrating with friends and family and had 4 rounds of graduation celebrations! The festivities kicked off Thursday evening and included many heavy dinners and lunches out as well as too many celebratory drinks! By Sunday I was feeling pretty blah and my wedding ring was way too tight!

Like everyone else, I give into temptations and I don't always follow my own "meal plans"...let's be honest- life happens!

I won't let my weekend of indulgence throw me off my track to success. I won't let it become my new normal! I'm leading a group of women to better health through good clean eating and fitness and this helps me stay accountable! I enjoyed myself this weekend but I  am committed to making better choices and getting back to my clean eating plan!

Another motivator for me is the fact that we are going to spend the Memorial Day weekend at the beach! Now, I'm not saying I'm fat, but you know how you feel when it's time to put on that tiny bikini and you don't feel your best?! Well after this weekend of Italian meals and martinis...It's time for a "Detox".

I've been hearing amazing things about this 3 day superfood cleanse so I decided to give it a try to detox my system :)

The best thing is that with this cleanse...I get to eat REAL food! It's not about starving or depriving myself, this 3 day "Detox" is about adding in super-dense nutrients and clean food!

I'll share my daily results with u guys in 3 days and include my before and after photos and inches!

Cilantro Lime Crock-Pot Chicken

Cilantro Lime Crock-Pot Chicken

As those of you who know or follow me know, I’m a busy girl always on the go! In my quest to eat healthy whole food meals, I've discovered how amazing a crock-pot can be.
It allows me to make easy meals for the whole week and I just have to throw all the ingredients in, let it cook, and enjoy! Perfect for a busy girl who wants to eat healthy (and who maybe isn't the best cook!).
I came across this super easy meal a few weeks ago and decided to give it a try! Not only did it taste great, it made a week’s worth of healthy lunches/dinners which helped me stay on track during a busy work week!
Seriously, try this Cilantro Lime Crock-pot Chicken recipe and you won’t be sorry! Plus it can be eaten in a variety of ways….alone, over brown rice, rolled up in tortillas, with salsa,….the ideas are endless!

Ingredients:

-Chicken breasts – I used ~2 lbs but you can use however much you want to make!
-3 limes
-Chicken broth – I used the low sodium for a healthier option!
-Fresh Cilantro
-Black pepper
-Onions – chopped
-Garlic Powder (optional)

Directions:

-Lay chicken breasts into the bottom of the pot
-Cover with chicken broth ( I filled my pot almost half way)
-Squeeze lime juice over the mix – (I got tired of squeezing mine and I threw them into my juicer for extra lime juice)
-Chop up about half an onion and add it to the mix
-Add in black pepper, salt (I don’t add salt but you can), garlic powder
-Lay fresh cilantro leaves/stalks over
-Keep lid closed (allows for better moisture to remain in the chicken)
-Cook on low for approx. 5 hours

*Hint- At about 4 hours I shredded the chicken using 2 forks so that I could have shredded chicken and it allows for the juices to penetrate more!
You can also add in more broth throughout the week for added moisture!

ENJOY!!

Top Reason I love Beachbody Coaching!

What is a Beachbody Coach?

A Beachbody coach is someone who is passionate about ending the obesity trend, someone who inspires others to live a healthier lifestyle, someone who is a product of the products (or just really loves the products!). A Beachbody coach is someone makes an income all by doing what they love - staying fit, promoting health, building relationships, and inspiring like minded individuals to do the same!

Whether you've already experienced your own transformation through one of our amazing programs or you are just starting your journey, anyone can be a successful Beachbody coach!

All it takes is for you to share what you're doing & what's helping you better your health with others :)

The Top Reasons I LOVE Coaching:

1. You are rewarded financially and emotionally by HELPING your challengers or customers rather than simply selling products! With most other MLM companies, you sell a product, make the transaction, and that's it. With Beachbody you are building a relationship with that person. You get to help them become the person they want to be and achieve their goals. Forget the money...there is NO better feeling than an inbox full of "Thank Yous" from people who you inspired and helped!

2. You get to be CREATIVE (if you want to be)- I don't get too many creative opportunities in my job as a nurse practitioner but with Coaching, I get to express my creative side. Coaches get to use Beachbody's amazing products to create completely personal and customized challenge groups for their customers! I get to decide on what content I want to share and have fun using my own clean eating recipes, etc. I also get to play with online apps to create creative advertisements for my groups!

If creativity isn't your thing then no worries either- Beachbody provides you with lots of templates to use...I just love to make them my own and customize the content I provide for my personal customers!

3. I get to play with Social Media! - I have to admit, prior to Coaching, I obviously dabled in social media but I'm now learning so much about how it works and the various platforms. What's the best is that I get to help so many more people this way! Most of my success has come from reconnecting with friend via social media. It's such an easy way to find new people to help and to join your team!

4. I have TONS of support and training provided to me by other successful coaches in the biz and it's all available ONLINE and on My TIME! Let's face it, life's busy and it's so amazing to be able to run your own business on your own time!

5. I had nothing to lose! - I have been using Beachbody product and LOVING them for over 5 years! As a coach, I had my initial sign up fee waived (you can too), there is such a low coaching cost, and I get 25% off all of the products I have been using and buying for years! Plus now I'm part of a team of some of the most supportive, motivated, and positive coaches that inspire and support me everyday!

6. ACCOUNTABILITY- It takes my personal accountability up to the NEXT LEVEl! Seriously, when I don't feel like working out I just think about the challengers in my challenge group and it pushes me to keep on going! Now of course all coaches have off days! We are definitely not perfect, but we enjoy fitness and healthy eating. We get to pay it forward to help others make a lifestyle change by sharing what works for us which is awesome!

7. You get to be in FULL CONTROL of how you run your business! You can simply be a discount coach and if you just enjoy getting the programs and Shakeology for 25% off, You can use it to earn an extra $500 per month as a hobby, or you can choose and build a business and YOU get to build your OWN TEAM! What other jobs allows you to CHOOSE who you work with?!

So if you are a fan of the programs and/or Shakeology, there really is no good reason NOT to coach?! You get paid to share with others what you are already doing....I coached for free for years while I was in graduate school....and I'm so glad I became official!

If you are even slightly considering becoming a Beachbody Coach, I encourage you to fill out my application and I'd love to speak with you more about your goals and questions!

How I make my daily Shakeology!

I've been a fan of Shakeology for years and I've tried to find a comparison and just have not been able to.
I never drank it daily as intended but I started drinking Shakeology daily about 2.5 months ago now as a personal "challenge" to see what all the hype was about first hand.

I've always been very interested in nutrition and what I put in my body but I wasn't expecting all the benefits that came along with drinking this shake daily!

Since starting to drink it daily, I've noticed:

1) Reduced cravings for sweets
2) Reduced cravings for caffeine
3) Improved digestion and regularity (big issue for me in the past)
4) Improved SLEEP! (HUGE issue for me in the past)
5) Increased focus and stamina during long work hours
6) More glowing skin!
7) Dry scalp no longer an issue! (embarrassing but true!)

The Story of My Career Change:

After celebrating the graduates this weekend I started to think back 7 years to when I first graduated from college. I had dreams of working in pharma sales. I was so excited to have landed my first sales job before I even walked across that stage.

Well let me tell you, those feelings of excitement soon left as I realized what my reality was. I worked very long hours out of my car, got my teeth knocked in day in day out, and I was in tears most mornings dreading the day ahead. I was miserable!  I had a my dream apartment to pay for and every other job I found that online seemed exactly the same!  I felt STUCK!

Well I guess my boss could sense my misery because 2 months in….I was FIRED!

I felt completely defeated, scared, anxious, and depressed!  I had to use all of my graduation money to pay for my rent while I wasted a few weeks feeling sorry for myself and sleeping all day.

Finally something clicked and I decided I needed to make a change! I made the decision to go back to school to become a nurse. Little did I know that I would now be paving new career paths for nurse practitioners!

I tell you this story not to scare anyone starting out in their career, but to show you that it may not be easy or perfect at first. If you find yourself unhappy, I want to remind you, that you have the power to redefine your career and your future! I used to say I was never "smart enough" to go to graduate school....well I sure proved myself wrong!

Sure it was scary and hard, but boy was it was worth it!

My Thoughts on the

The Ketosis Diet aka " Keto-Diet" Fad:

I'm sure you have heard of this new diet fad, know someone who has peed on a stick to "check their ketones", or maybe you have tried ketosis yourself....and if you haven't, you are about to learn more about it!

*Now I'm sure my post will upset those who swear by ketosis. I'm not doubting that it can be done in moderation,  safely, and with great success for some...but the following is my personal opinion and based on the medical knowledge I have as a family nurse practitioner who currently specializes in urology.

What is Ketosis?

When our bodies don't have glucose from carbohydrates available to burn for energy, we can break down fat, in the form of ketone bodies, to burn for energy. Think of it as the body's defense mechanism in case there's no food  available for us to remain alive.

But while in a state of ketosis, your body not only burns your fat, it can begin to burn your muscle (that you worked pretty hard for I’m sure) down for fuel also.

Muscle is what increases your metabolism and burns more unwanted fat so you definitely do NOT want to burn muscle!
Your heart is also a muscle, hence why these diets have been linked to heart problems…..and your heart is the most important muscle you've got!

The Ketosis Diet may help you drop pounds quickly (although the majority of that is probably due to water weight), if you stay in this state of Ketosis, you become very tired and your body can enter starvation mode!

What happens in starvation mode?!

Our bodies are pretty amazing and one of the main things our bodies do is protect us. If your body is “starving”, guess what it’s going to store as protection?! FAT!..and guess what it doesn't want you to do?! Lose weight/fat!!

Another consequence of Ketosis is that in that state, our bodies have the potential to become very acidic which leads to many healthy problems. Now many argue that the level of ketones in nutritional ketosis will never create the pH imbalances that occur in diabetic ketoacidosis.

Diabetic Ketoacidosis or DKA, is a very serious condition that diabetics can suffer from. When someone has diabetes, they either do not make insulin (type 1), or their cells become desensitized to insulin from years of very high blood sugar, such that overtime the insulin that is secreted doesn't work like it should (Type 2).

*Think of it as a lock and a key.  Insulin is the key to unlock our cells and allow the glucose (sugar) to enter for energy.

In DKA, diabetics’ body cells become so starved that the person experiences a host of medical problems and can actually enter a diabetic COMA!

OK back to Keto-Diet….

Now, in a person who makes insulin normally, should have a well functioning negative feedback mechanism, which therefore should keep them from building up a high enough level of ketones in their blood stream to cause the acidity that leads a diabetic down the road of severe problems associated with DKA.

Those of us with a normally functioning pancreas that secretes insulin as it should are said to be in “Nutritional Ketosis”.

My Issues with the Keto Diet:

Being in a state of "Nutritional Ketosis" claims that we will lose weight since our bodies will not be using glucose as fuel but will switch to using fat. And although it's been shown to be beneficial for short term weight loss, I just can't see this as a healthy weight-loss plan as it's way too hard (and potentially damaging) to sustain!

While eating a “high protein, no carb” diet isn't all that bad for a healthy person on occasion, there are known health problems associated with eating this way long term!

First off, as mentioned already above, you cannot survive in a state of “starvation” (I’m talking cellular). Even if it’s not going to cause the high acidic levels to create the problems that those with diabetes will suffer in ketosis, eating in a way that for most, is not going to be sustainable long term for most people, which just sets them up for weight gain later!!

Secondly, eating a very high protein diet (esp animal protein) can also be very hard on the kidneys (I work in urology!), can increase the formation of kidney stones (ouch!), and Ketosis very often causes BAD BREATH!!!!!

Eating a diet very high in animal proteins CAN create an acidic state in our bodies and to combat this acidity, our body pulls Calcium (acid buffer) from our bones to neutralize this state which can weaken the bones!

Thirdly, many people who choose to follow the Keto-Diet often consume unhealthy foods that are high in animal fats and cholesterol simply because they are high in protein or low in carbohydrates.

Ok, so you may fit into that pair of jeans this week, but you’ll have bad breath, be in pain from kidney stones, and once you go back to eating normally, gain all that weight back….Sound like a plan for success????

I’m sorry to sound like a HATER and I’m in NO way saying go out and eat all the carbs in the world, but in my personal opinion living in an unnatural state where your body is having to work to protect you is not a great long term weight loss plan.

It's one thing to give up bread, but I just can't wrap my head around eliminating an entire macro-nutrient category (carbohydrates) from the diet as a healthy or sustainable plan. I believe that nutrition is a balance of micro and macro nutrients that work together.

I think I'll stick to my balanced whole food diet with lots of plant based foods (that do have carbs) and protein...and I'll leave you to decide what works best for you!
